The Other Side
Oct 4, 2011
Staff from Phinda Mountain Lodge recently took a trip to visit some of our sister lodges in the North of the Phinda Private Game Reserve. Some staff have been with us for up to 10 years and have never ventured out of their home lodge. Vehicles and rangers were organised to transfer the staff members to and fro for their day of adventure.
Phinda Zuka Lodge was one of the first lodges visited. The uniqueness and privacy of the lodge makes it a firm favourite amongst guests and staff. Fun was had as some staff poked around, gazing at the different landscaping and interior designs while others just sat back in awe.
Staff were amazed at how things physically changed once they got to the North of the Reserve. The Sand Forest is one of the last remaining natural sand dunes in Africa. The bushes and shrubs were luscious and green; the trees looming overhead as the staff swung through the pathways towards Phinda Vlei Lodge. A feeling of complete serenity came over everyone as though they were caught in a large leafy bubble.
Phinda Vlei is a small yet beautiful lodge. Rooms concealed within the bush with their own private swimming pools on deck really caught the eye of the men, while the woman enjoyed the look of the deep white tub tucked away in the bathroom underneath gorgeously fluffy towels. You could definitely see the ladies making a mental note and planning where they wanted to go for their next birthday!
Phinda Homestead is one of the most striking lodges at &Beyond Phinda. The luxurious lounge certainly made one of the staff members, Faith, feel welcome and just like a guest while her husband Obed serenaded her with sweet nothings. The decor at Phinda Homestead really stunned us all. The exclusivity of the bedrooms and outside sitting area was not lost on anyone.
To be able to show the Phinda Mountain staff the "other side" of the reserve was such a privilege. It reminds us who we are and what we are here to do. An adventure into the "unknown" too, always gives us staff the extra vigour we need when working to delight our guests each and every day.
